Ubisoft history

Founded in 1986 by the Guillemot brothers. The company started importing products from abroad for distribution in France, with 1987 releases including Elite Software's Commando and Ikari Warriors, the former of which sold 15,000 copies by January 1987. In 1988, Yves Guillemot was appointed as Ubi Soft’s chief executive officer.

In the early 1990s, Ubisoft began creating original titles, such as Zombi and Rayman. In 1996, Ubisoft opened its first studio outside France, in Montreal. The studio later became one of the company’s largest studios and a major contributor to its popular franchises.

In the early 2000s, Ubisoft expanded its development studios in Montreal and Toronto and acquired Red Storm Entertainment and Blue Byte Software.
